The flow control valve controls only the flow of the liquid. It is fitted in line with the pipe. But the level control valves controls the level of the liquid in a container. It is usually fitted in such a place to control the high level or low level of the chemical required in the process.

CrossLinguistic Influence at Lexical Level $111.53 Lexicalization patterns(LPs) differ from one language to another. This study investigates the influence of L1 LPs on the processing of L2 words in sentential contexts by Persian learners of English. The focus was on cases where two different senses of a polysemous word in Persian are realized by two independent words in English. The participants were presented with two types of anomalous sentences: test sentences in which one of the two English words was used in a context where the other word was appropriate and control sentences in which the same word was used in a context where neither of the two words was appropriate. The participants were asked to judge, as quickly and accurately as possible, whether the final word could complete the sentence meaningfully or whether the final word was semantically unacceptable. Control of a Robotic Transtibial Prosthesis. $115.71 The human footankle system was studied with the goal of exploring actuation methods for a robotic prosthesis. The human ankle skeletal and musculotendon structure is explained and related to the mechanical system of a robotic ankle. A new methodology for control of a footankle prosthetic device was developed. It was shown that monitoring the angular movement of the shank in a phase place is a reliable method for calculating how the ankle should move. A well tuned system was shown to effectively enable a transtibial amputee to walk not only on flat ground, but also on slopes and stairs. Two algorithms for relating ankle movement to shank movement were developed and tested with an amputee subject. The advantages and disadvantages of each are discussed. Both control algorithms are of a continuous nature, meaning that the behavior of the ankle is a continuous function of the movement of the shank. Thorough testing of the control algorithm has shown it to be very robust, largely because of the continuous nature of the algorithm. It was important that the algorithm contain no ifthen logic, decision making, or gait event estimation. All of this is accomplished with the use of one sensor. The algorithm is very simple and easily implemented. The performance was tested on the aforementioned activities and it was found that the robot is an improvement over a passive device and can lend the user confidence while negotiating slopes and stairs. Test in showed that a user can walk over level ground, walk forwards and backwards, ascend and descend stairs, and walk up and down slopes all at any desired speed. SemiActive Dampers Modeling and Control $143.39 This thesis deals with the modeling, control and estimation of semiactive automotive suspensions in order to improve the comfort and roadholding level of the vehicles. The main contribution is a complete observer and controller design methodology, allowing to improve the performance of the vehicle while using a reduced number of sensors. One of the primary rationales for mixed-income housing is to counteract the negative effects associated with concentrated poverty and promote upward mobility for low-income families through the creation of social networks. A primary premise of the mixed-income approach is that neighbors will in fact interact so it is imperative in the wake of this popular model to examine what is actually taking place. Using qualitative and quantitative methods this dissertation explores the questions of (1) are people interacting? (2) If they do interact, are there social and economic benefits related to their interactions? I conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with 50 residents as well as a shorter survey with 100 residents at a HOPE VI site. Findings from this research demonstrated that neighbors did interact on some level and when they did, they frequently gained something from those interactions often in the form of some social control in the neighborhood. However, it is important to note that residents had few interactions with those of a dissimilar lifestyle, background, or life cycle and instead tended to form social relationships with neighbors more like themselves.
