Nano Reef Connected to Pico reef as sump?

as mentioned before (despite not getting any answers to my previous posts)
I have 4 nano reefs im building up on a rack. They all have HOB filters, HOB skimmers, Koralia nano powerheads, DIY walmart coralife 2 20 watt 50/50 light bulb hoods.

I want to grow some cheato in some pico reefs or some sort of HOB refugium.
if it were a pico reef, it would most likely be this one:

is there a way i can connect a 10 gallon and a 3 gallon pico reef together like a sump?
if so… how?

There are a few ways to connect them.

Usually one tank would be above the other, and several water flow options:
1) Take the taller tank, put a pump pushing water into it from the shorter tank, and an overflow return from the taller to the shorter, kinda like a hang on back refugium or filter. Here the water is pumped into one tank and then the water fills up and overflows back into the original tank. Be sure to not plug the return/overflow to prevent flooding.

2) Put one tank below the other and have the water overflow (usually with an overflow box to prevent flooding) to the bottom tank and then a return pump back to the main tank. This is a sump set up.

3) You can also do some sort of inline system with they two tanks next to eachother with some sort of inline connection. You can have a pump or just a few lines connecting the two tanks. This is less common.

Based on the size of the tanks, I would do #1.

CPR is wonderful. I love their nano cubes and pico cubes. Great company. They are acrylic tanks, so can be customized easily (drilled) if needed.
