brown stuff on my plants and glass???

i have artificial plants and decor in my tank. I have a 55 gallon tank with ram cichlid, tetra, guppies, clown pleco, mystery snail, and a bamboo shrimp. There’s this yellowish brown stuff that is beginning to grow in quantity on my fake plants i have no real plants. What is it?

It’s brown algae. It often appears in newly set up tanks and it goes away when the balance between good and bad bacteria has been established.

It can however appear in old tanks. The cause? excess nutrients and lack of light. You say you have artificial plants. Those plants do nothing when it comes to absorbing excess nutrients. This is a list of the things you can do:

-Don’t over feed your fish. Just one pinch of food a day is enough.
-Wipe the algae off with a sponge. It’s very easy to remove manually.
-Get stronger lights for your tank. This will keep the algae from spreading.
-Get live plants. They will absorb the excess nutrients used by algae to thrive. They will keep the brown algae population under control.
